The International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) is the first centre to be established at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Singapore.

The Centre seeks to integrate academic theory with practical knowledge, essential for a complete and comprehensive understanding of the threats from politically motivated violence and terrorism.The ICPVTR conducts cutting-edge action-oriented research on mitigating conflict and political violence. The Centre’s objective is to integrate academic research with practical knowledge, essential for a complete and comprehensive understanding of the threats from politically motivated violence and terrorism, and for developing appropriate counter-measures against the same

The Centre is staffed by academic specialists, religious scholars, as well as personnel from the law enforcement, military and intelligence agencies, amongst others. The Centre seeks to maintain its cultural and linguistic diversity through, comprising of functional and regional analysts from around Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America
