Aum Shinrikyo aimed to overthrow the Japanese government and establish an Aum dictatorship, according to a religious ideal, in order to save Japan as a whole, from a nuclear disaster. Aum's leader, Shoko Asahara, claimed that the US would attack Japan and turn it into a nuclear wasteland. |
